Oliver Glasner will remain a hero to all Eagles fans, but it was the off-field battles he faced that ultimately meant we now go into the new season with a new man in charge.
That man is Pierre Sage, who comes from a remarkably successful period of his own at Lens, after bringing Lyon back from the wilderness previously. He will have his own ideas of what needs to be done for next season, but the first thing the club needs to do is to learn from the mistakes with Glasner. Palace need to listen to Sage and what he requires, then the entire club can move as one in the right direction.
Strengthen Squad
It is annoying that for players like Adam Wharton, a good showing in the World Cup this summer will only increase the number of suitors looking to offer millions for his services. We have already outlined why it is vitally important that Palace can persuade him to stay, but strengthening the squad is something that is also crucial, no matter where he starts the 2026-27 season.
Palace obviously need to know as quickly as possible how realistic it will be for the club to retain the services of Wharton and the other top players, but another midfielder and a defender should be at the top of the shopping list anyway. With another European campaign to look forward to, giving the squad more depth is the only way that Palace can continue to be successful in all competitions.
Get Business Done Early
The Premier League transfer window is now open, but the ongoing World Cup will undoubtedly hamper clubs hoping to do brisk business at the beginning of the summer. Many players appearing in North America will want to concentrate on their international duty before contemplating possible moves.
But Palace knows more than most what could happen if the transfer business is left until the last days of the offseason. Taking its time over the future of the likes of Mateta, Guéhi, and Eze ultimately cost the club its trophy-winning head coach last season. So having everything in place well before the kick-off in August should be an absolute priority.
Make the Club Attractive
It is all very well for us Palace fans to demand new signings who will take the club to the next level, but we also have to be realistic as to how attractive the club is to potential recruits. As a new Europa League side, there is the promise of playing in that competition, as well as arguably the most attractive domestic league in the world – but there are more strings to Palace’s bow.
The very top tier of players will probably look towards the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City, but Palace does have its location on its side. Playing and living in London is a huge draw that other cities in this country just cannot match. Investment in the ground and other facilities should also be used to make Palace as attractive as possible to anyone on the market this summer.

We are an established top-tier club now, so there is some continuity already in place, even if many of the people in charge of strengthening the club this summer will be new.
The owners need to ensure that every deal and decision is made with the next five years in mind, as well as what could happen during the 2026-27 season. The future looks bright for Palace right now, but making the right moves this summer could have a positive effect for seasons to come.
